A pump that produces a head of 2.31ft, is equivalent to 1psi.
Head is the height of water the pump can pump. Pumps are rated by the amount of head they produce at a particular flowrate.
To select the right pump, there are factors to consider.
If a pump is undersized, the pump may not supply the right pressure or the right volume of water. Depending on the setup, the pump would have to run longer, more often, or not work at all.
If a pump is oversized, money is wasted. Depending on the application, the pump may need to start and stop more often, burning out contantors, starters, and other components. It may also provide too much pressure or flow where you may need to relieve or regulate down, which may be wasting energy.
